MTs Ma'arif Karangasem merupakan madrasah tsanawiyah swasta satu-satunya yang masih ada di kabupaten Karangasem. Dalam perkembangannya, sekolah ini sudah mampu untuk memiliki bangunan /gedung sendiri dan telah mampu membiayai operasional sekolahnya. Dalam melakukan kegiatan belajar menghajar, guru-guru yang mengajar telah mendapat ijazah sarjana hampir 80% tenaga guru yang mengajar. Dan juga telah ditunjang dengan kegiatan-kegiatan ekstra kulikuler yang ada didalamnya.
MTs Ma'arif tidak membebankan biaya sedikitpun kepada murid-muridnya dalam artiannya sekolah di MTs Ma'arif GRATIS tidak ada biaya apapun dari mulai masuk sampai lulus.
Hal ini dilakukan karena melihat keadaan masyarakat sekitar yang rata-rata tidak mampu dalam hal penghasilan keluarga, dan juga untuk mengurangi tingkat putus sekolah pada anak-anak dusun kecicang islam kec. Bebandem, Kab. Karangasem yang merupakan lokasi berdirinya madrasah ini.
